Journalist Alex Crook has now said that Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi could genuinely leave Goodison Park before this week’s transfer deadline.

Indeed, Crook says that rumours of Iwobi’s departure have ‘got legs’ with Marco Silva’s Fulham side currently considered the ‘front runners’ for his signature.

Speaking on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Crook said: “This has got legs. Iwobi only has a year on his contract, Everton are trying to give Sean Dyche the resources to rebuild the squad. If they can sell Iwobi, I think they are open to doing that.

There is rumours of another Premier League club also interested in Iwobi but I think at the moment Fulham would be the front runners.”

Everton can afford to sell Alex Iwobi if they reinvest well and quickly

The ‘exceptional’ Iwobi has just one year remaining on his current deal at Everton and if the Blues can cash in on the inconsistent 27-year-old, then it could be good business provided they reinvest well.

Sean Dyche has brought in five players so far this summer as he looks to rebuild Everton’s squad, with an emphasis on the Toffees’ attacking output.

Despite this, after three Premier League games, the Blues are still without a goal or a point, however the £26m arrival of Portuguese forward Beto could provide Dyche with some much-needed firepower.

Alex Iwobi is frustrating but also one of Everton’s most creative players, it is only since Dyche’s appointment that he has been played on the wing after a period playing centrally, where he looked far more comfortable.

Indeed, the arrival of Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma, both loan signings this summer, ensure that Everton’s wide options have been strengthened, at least in the short term.

With that in mind, recouping some money from the club’s investment in Iwobi to fund another incoming for Sean Dyche would be smart business from Everton.
