Three reasons why Friedkin Group may not offer David Moyes new Everton deal

Everton manager David Moyes is heading into the final year of his contract.

When David Moyes returned to Everton in January 2025, the club only offered him a two and a half year deal.

So, as it stands, Moyes is due to leave the football club this time next year, unless, of course, the Friedkin Group offer him a new contract.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

However, it wouldn’t at all be surprising if the American investors decide against renewing his deal; here’s why.

Why Everton may decide against giving David Moyes new contract

Moyes doesn’t give youth a chance

The Friedkin Group wanted to drive down Everton’s average age last summer, so they signed several players who were aged 23 or younger.

The American investors even shelled out £40m on the signature of Tyler Dibling, who at the time was one of the most sought-after talents in the country.

However, Moyes only started Dibling four times in the Premier League, and many of the other young additions, like Adam Aznou and Tyrique George, barely got a look-in as well.

So, club chiefs may decide they need a more modern manager to really progress as a club and evolve the squad.

It’s imperative that the young players get a chance, otherwise, the recruitment strategy, which is centred around bringing in some of the best talent in Europe, will be hard to achieve as targets may think twice about joining Moyes’ side.

Moyes is losing some fan support

There are a lot of Everton supporters who feel Moyes isn’t the right manager to return the club to Europe.

Many Toffees fans wanted Andoni Iraola before he joined Liverpool, so the Friedkins will be aware of the growing frustration around the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The owners won’t want to lose that feel-good factor around the place by sticking with Moyes for too long, if indeed a large section of the fanbase are still calling for change next term.

TFG may wait to see if a unique opportunity pops up

The final, and perhaps most important, reason why Everton may not renew Moyes’ contract is to wait and see what opportunities present themselves.

Most would agree that Moyes should only be moved on if there is a notable upgrade that is available, and at the moment, there isn’t.

The Scotsman has proven that he’ll keep the ship steadied, so it’d be unwise to gamble on an unproven coach to replace him.

The Friedkins will no doubt be waiting to see if a top manager becomes available next season, or perhaps they might go for Kieran McKenna next summer.

McKenna left Ipswich Town earlier this month after gaining promotion to the top-flight, and he’s expected to take a 12-month break to spend more time with his family.

If he’s ready to return to management in a year’s time, Everton should seriously consider appointing him.
