Everton play their final game of the season on Sunday, yet the club are still to announce their plans for their pre-season programme.

David Moyes and his side jetted off to the United States last year for the Premier League’s Summer Series.

This time around, something a lot more modest appears to be in store for Everton, with a possible European trip on the table.

It is slightly unusual for a side to wait this late into the season before confirming their pre-season plans.

Everton News’ finance expert Adam Williams believes the World Cup has certainly played its part in clubs having to find alternative plans to playing in the United States.

“This summer, it’s a World Cup year, which complicates things somewhat. You’ll have Everton players coming back at different stages, some of whom will need more rest than others,” he said.

“I think we’ll see fewer of the more extravagant pre-season tours as a result.”

It will be an opportunity for the club to provide opportunities to some of the promising youngsters coming through the ranks, though.

Everton News understands that George Pickford is expected to feature in Everton’s pre-season plans before a decision is made on his immediate future.
