‘Tireless’ player has just rejected contract offer from Sevilla after links with Everton move

Despite their recent struggles, Everton inexplicably remains an attractive proposition for players.

And whilst the retention of their Premier League status remains a huge reason for that success, it cannot be forgotten that this is a club that are still one of England’s biggest, even if their fortunes have not been so bright of late.

With that in mind, perhaps they might therefore have the edge over some strong European clubs who might be without such a rich history, or even other English sides.

This particular transfer saga could prove that notion perfectly.

Wilfred Ndidi rejects contract offer

The Toffees have shown interest in a plethora of players this summer, in a desperate effort to bolster Sean Dyche’s squad.

Clearly, Kevin Thelwell has a plan, but the rate at which they are accumulating transfer targets is alarming.

Everton’s efforts to sign Wilfred Ndidi mark one such example, although this could perhaps be preparing for life without Amadou Onana.

As a free agent, having left Leicester City at the end of last season, this would represent smart business.

And, fortunately according to Estadio Deportivo, he seems to be willing to wait for the perfect offer, which could be one that keeps him in England.

They report that the midfielder has just rejected a contract offer from Sevilla.

Everton could replace Amadou Onana for free

With Amadou Onana still linked with an Everton exit, his future at Goodison Park remains murky at best.

After all, he has been vocal about his desire to leave for greener pastures, and at just 22 but already a regular for his national team, he is constantly surrounded by elite talent.

It is likely this, added to his perceived ambition, that has made him feel like the Toffees are not where he can truly fulfil his potential.

Fortunately, in Ndidi, Dyche would gain an instant replacement for the defensive midfielder without having to pay a thing.

So, by hopefully fetching a huge fee and a much-needed profit from Onana’s sale, and only having to foot the wage of the Nigerian, this would represent fine business.

Especially given how impressive the 27-year-old was last season for Leicester City, as they waltzed to the Championship title.

Across his 32 league appearances, he scored four, assisted five, maintained an 82% pass accuracy whilst also posting 1.2 tackles and 3.3 ball recoveries per game.

TalkSPORT’s Charlie Carmichael only recently lauded him for being ‘tireless’, suggesting he shows no signs of slowing down despite injuries often hampering his progress.

Defensively sound but progressive too, his arrival would be like Onana never left.
