‘To be honest’: Two-time PL champion makes prediction about ‘surprising’ Everton

Dimitar Berbatov has been ‘surprised’ by Everton this season – but not in a good way.

Speaking to METRO, the former striker tipped the Toffees to claim a point against Bournemouth this weekend as he criticised them for ‘underperforming’.

Everton are desperate to end their horrific form at Goodison Park, with their only victory in the past eight home games coming against Bournemouth on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign.

Sean Dyche’s side will now look to pick up where they left off against a side who are yet to claim their first win this season, though Everton should be one of their ‘easier’ opponents after already facing the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Toffees looked to have turned things around when they beat Brentford and Aston Villa, but their shock defeat to Luton Town has once again soured the mood.

Their terrible form on home soil will be the elephant in the room as they host Bournemouth, while Berbatov still doesn’t expect the Merseyside club to make it two wins from nine.

“Everton continue to surprise me in a bad way to be honest,” Berbatov told Metro.

“A big club with great history, and still underperforming. They are a big club with great history, but they are really struggling with that defeat to Luton last time out.

“They’ve lost all four games at home this season, and they need the points. Bournemouth are also struggling for points and need some too. I’ll go for a draw.”

Everton can’t settle for a point

Berbatov predicted a 1-1 scoreline at Goodison Park this weekend, a result which still wouldn’t really be much use to Everton.

Of course, they need as many points as they can get during a campaign that seems to be packed with potential relegation candidates. But, just like Luton, tomorrow’s match is one they really should be winning if they are to stay up.

However, the Cherries will be thinking the exact same thing. Apart from West Ham, all the teams they have faced finished in the top half last time out. Their points tally is worse off, but the atmosphere on the south coast still isn’t as gloomy as on the blue side of Merseyside.
