Tyrique George’s move to Everton is set to spell the end for Dwight McNeil – and that would be the right decision.
Everton are close to bringing George back as a permanent player, with a £24 million agreement having been reached with Chelsea.
Everton are paying £18 million initially, with the remaining £6 million to come through add-ons. Chelsea will have a 15% sell-on clause.
What should Everton do with Dwight McNeil this summer? 🤔
He has really turned it around following his failed move to Palace! 🤩
Fans are pleased with the development because George looked bright during his loan. He might have played more, but his potential is clear to see.
And in light of this news, it’s been reported by TEAMtalk that Dwight McNeil is now expected to depart – and that would be the right move for all parties.
Why Dwight McNeil’s time at Everton is up

McNeil recently finished his fourth season at Everton, and it was actually somewhat surprising he made it to the end of 2025/26 still a Toffees player.
Because he came so close to joining Crystal Palace in the mid-season transfer window, before the Eagles walked away to leave him in the lurch. Everton had approved the sale.
That was a disappointing moment for him, but to his credit, he came back into the picture at Everton and delivered some good performances against the likes of Newcastle United and Burnley.
But, like a lot of his teammates, he had a weak end to the campaign.

Unfortunately, McNeil simply doesn’t have enough credit in the bank to warrant being kept.
And it seems Everton do feel that way. Between the club green-lighting his exit earlier this year and this new report from TEAMtalk, it seems the club feel it is time to move on.
And it is, with McNeil having actually failed to score in 2025/26 while making just one assist.
Everton need consistent output in the final third more than ever, and he doesn’t bring it.

He has never made more than 10 goals and assists combined in his four seasons at the club and while he does a decent job defensively, his consistent shortcomings at the top end of the pitch suggest Everton can and should upgrade.
Everton ended up slipping down into 14th place at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Now is a time to be ruthless, and it would be best for all parties for McNeil to move on, with West Ham United reportedly keen on the 26-year-old.
