‘Unplayable’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin told he’s the best player in the Premier League at doing one thing

It has been a disappointing campaign on the whole for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton.

The 27-year-old has found goals hard to come by for the Toffees in 2024/25, and has borne the brunt of supporters’ frustrations.

But Everton were utterly toothless as a collective under Sean Dyche, so there could be some sympathy for him.

Since David Moyes came in though, Calvert-Lewin has improved and against Tottenham Hotspur recently, he broke his duck and scored his first goal for the club since August.

After that game, Calvert-Lewin praised Moyes for the job he’s done at Everton so far, and suggested he won’t be on the move this month.

Sadly against Brighton though, Calvert-Lewin picked up an injury and fans are now nervously waiting to learn the extent of the damage.

Hopefully, he’s not going to be out for too long, and pundit Tony Cascarino certainly thinks losing him would be a blow given one big claim he’s just made about the number nine.

Tony Cascarino claims Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the best leap in the Premier League

Calvert-Lewin has long been know for his aerial prowess.

The star stands at a cool 6ft 2in tall, and has the ability to really tower over defenders who mark him with the spring that he has.

Of the 71 goals he’s scored for Everton, 19 have been headers and many of those have demanded him to jump for the ball.

For Cascarino, there is actually no better player in the whole Premier League than Calvert-Lewin when it comes to leaping for the ball.

He wrote in his column for The Times: “I’ve always considered Everton to be a club who have had some of the best No9s in the game — big, powerful forwards who lead the line and score goals. Joe Royle, Bob Latchford, Andy Gray, Graeme Sharp, Duncan Ferguson, Romelu Lukaku and I would add Calvert-Lewin to that list.

“His leap is phenomenal, the best in the Premier League and he leads the line well, holding up the ball and running channels.”

Cascarino went on to say that Calvert-Lewin ‘can be unplayable for defenders’ on his day.

But the pundit did ponder in his column that Calvert-Lewin may need to move on from Everton, with his contract up at the end of the season. If he’s to sign a new contract, Cascarino reckons Moyes needs to sign a younger striker to compete with Calvert-Lewin.

Moyes will be worried over Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin going off injured against Brighton will have been gutting for Moyes.

The improvement in the 27-year-old since the Scot came in has been clear to see, and he was one player many felt would respond really well to a change of manager.

Leon Osman said recently Moyes has always wanted to work with a striker like Calvert-Lewin, but it looks like the star now faces a spell on the sidelines.

If the injury he’s picked up is serious, then Everton will surely scramble to try and sign a new striker in the transfer market.
