What Arsenal fans chanted at Goodison Park which even Everton fans couldn’t resist joining in

Everton fans were in fine voice during their draw on Saturday against Arsenal at Goodison Park.

The first 45 minutes really were poor from Everton who failed to provide much competition for a rotated Arsenal side.

Mikel Arteta said the Everton game was more important than Real Madrid, but his team selection did not quite suggest that.

David Moyes was able to turn things around in the second half as his side showed a lot more grit in attack.

A quick reply after the interval saw Everton collect their fifth draw in six Premier League games.

But there was something sung by both sets of fans at Goodison which took some of the reporters in the press box by surprise.

Everton fans join in singing Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta song

The Merseyside welcomed back their former midfielder in Arteta on Saturday as he made his final visit to Goodison Park.

Moyes aimed a subtle dig at Arteta during the week ahead of the game taking aim at some of his touchline antics.

However, the reception from the home fans was positive, with BBC Sport reporter Shamoon Hafez wowed by the home fans singing in unison with the away end.

“Super, super Mik, Super Mik Arteta,” sing the travelling Arsenal supporters,’ he said from the press box.

‘Some Everton fans join in!’

Everton fans honoured Moyes with a new banner before the game at Goodison Park, but it was the opposition manager they were singing the name of.

Although the Spaniard was handed a warm welcome back to Merseyside, Everton fans will have been delighted to take a point off their former player.

Everton needed a big result after Merseyside Derby loss

There is no doubting that the game on Saturday against the Gunners had the potential to cast a real shadow over the work done since Moyes returned.

Everton have racked up a lot of draws over the last month or so, which has slightly halted their pursuit of pulling away from the bottom three.

And after going behind to the Gunners, Everton were at risk of seeing some questions asked ahead of next week’s game against Nottingham Forest.

Mike Dean questioned Everton’s penalty award against Arsenal after feeling there was not a lot of contact made.

However, with Ndiaye back in the side, Moyes’ side were able to show some real quality in the second half in what will have been a reassuring showing for the fans.
