Everton took a point against Manchester United, but it could – and perhaps should – have been three.
David Moyes’ side drew 2-2 with United at Goodison Park, but many feel as though this was a missed opportunity.
Everton were 2-0 up and cruising by half-time, after goals by Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
But United came back in the second-half, with Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte both on target.
But the big talking point is about that penalty decision at the end.
Referee Andy Madley had awarded Everton a penalty for a foul by Matthijs de Ligt on Ashley Young. But Madley reversed his decision, after VAR sent him to the pitchside monitor.
It has split opinion, although Alan Shearer branded the decision that went against Everton as ‘mind-boggling’.
The man at the centre of the controversy Young was certainly stunned by what happened yesterday.

How Ashley Young reacted to VAR decision in Everton vs Manchester United

This incident will likely be discussed for days.
Certainly, the feeling from Everton is that Young was surely fouled, with de Ligt pulling his shirt twice.
Madley not being shown the right angles of the incident was strange, and perhaps the outcome would have been different otherwise.
There was no one more surprised than Young himself when Madley overturned his initial decision.
Footage taken by a supporter at Goodison Park – shared by journalist Tony Scott on X – is doing the rounds on social media which shows the moment Madley overturned his decision.
Young can be seen sinking down, and then lifting his shirt up to cover his eyes briefly, before looking back at the referee in utter disbelief.
Ashley Young channels Jose Mourinho with reaction on Instagram to Everton VAR decision
Young’s reaction in that moment really did speak volumes.
He just couldn’t believe Madley overturned the decision, and many fans will share his sentiments.
Young went further after the game with his reaction to the incident, taking to social media to use phrase made famous by Jose Mourinho.
He said: “A point’s a point, onwards and upwards! Decisions, Angles 👀🤷🏾♂️ I prefer not to speak, if I speak I am in big trouble. UTFT 💙”
Mourinho had used that line as Chelsea manager in 2014, when his side lost to Aston Villa in the Premier League. That game saw a disallowed goal and three red cards, including one for himself.
Thankfully, this decision that didn’t go Everton’s way likely won’t be too costly. The Toffees are 14 points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a remarkable impact from David Moyes.
