Everton were fuming after the draw with Manchester United as they believed a penalty should’ve been awarded in the dying embers.

It was a frustrating end to the game for the Toffees who stumbled with a 2-0 lead drawing 2-2 with Man United.

But a late decision from VAR took the headlines after Harry Maguire and Matthijs De Ligt were deemed to have fouled Ashley Young.

Young was tugged back by both defenders and it seemed like Everton were given a lifeline, but VAR overturned referee Andy Madley’s decision.

Rio Ferdinand told VAR they got it wrong, and now it’s been revealed what the officials told the TNT commentators.

Commentator says what VAR told him after Everton vs Man United penalty decision

It’s certainly brought up plenty of controversy as David Moyes can’t seem to have a dull game at the moment.

Following the hectic scenes at Goodison Park vs Liverpool, after the game, it was fury instead of joy against Man United.

Ferdinand didn’t agree with the decision, but former Premier League referee Mike Dean said it wasn’t an Everton penalty, which brings up plenty of debate.

However, what TNT commentators Adam Summerton and Ally McCoist heard says it all.

The commentator said that the VAR told the referee to check whether Maguire was pulling Young and not De Ligt.

A very bizarre thing to say considering De Ligt made more contact with the Everton defender with his left arm, even though Maguire was involved.

Despite the controversy, Everton shouldn’t have let 2-0 lead slip

It’s all well and good saying the penalty cost the Toffees the result, but Everton were cruising at 2-0.

At half-time, it seemed like you didn’t have to watch anymore after Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure sent Everton into half-time with a demanding lead.

But United gained momentum, and the game could’ve swung either way, showing Moyes still has plenty of work to do.

Nevertheless, Everton can hold their heads high after another brilliant performance, as the contrast between Sean Dyche’s tenure is remarkable.
