What Everton ‘are expected to’ do as big update on points deduction appeal emerges

Everton, clearly aggrieved by the Premier League’s ruling from a couple of weeks ago, made their feelings on their ten-point deduction known straight away.

Their club statement was impassioned and instant, outlining their thoughts on the matter, whether they felt they had been fairly treated, and, crucially, their intention to appeal the outcome.

Well, that notion finally seems set to come to fruition, much to the delight of the frustrated Toffees faithful, with Alan Myers handing fans a much-needed update on his X account.

The Evertonians have been in full voice ever since their club were handed the ten-point deduction, with mass protests overshadowing their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United last Sunday.

With planes, banners, flags and more, they are a fanbase completely perturbed by a landmark ruling which has seen Everton handed the harshest sporting sanction in the history of the Premier League.

That is still subject to change though, with Myers writing the following update on their appeal: ‘Everton are expected to submit their appeal against the 10 point deduction on Friday. The club had 14 days from publication of the sanction to appeal and will take the full allocated time. The case will be heard by a different panel from the original commission.’

Why have Everton been deducted ten points?

Everton’s points deduction came about following their reported flouting of the division’s profit and sustainability rules, of which the Merseyside outfit had already admitted guilt.

However, in doing so they hoped that their transparency, and subsequent promise to change, would be enough to avoid any severe punishment.

Whilst that has since been ignored, it is clear that they did break the rules.

Their statutes note that any Premier League club is allowed to lose a maximum of £105m over a three-year rolling period, and that the Toffees overspent this figure by a mere £19m.

Whether that merits such a severe sanction is a debate for another day, but plain and simple, that is why Everton were docked ten points.
