What Everton may seek to do with Tyrique George this summer as Moyes feeling shared

Tyrique George was Everton’s one and only addition in January, and fans are wondering if he will be signed permanently.

The winger arrived from Chelsea, essentially being brought in as cover for Jack Grealish, who picked up a season-ending foot injury.

Having lacked starting opportunities at Chelsea, the move was a positive one for him, with Everton crying out for a bit of pace and directness.

But George has found starts hard to come by so far.

David Moyes has leaned on his more experienced players, meaning George has started just one game against Bournemouth so far.

Now, there has been an update on the potential for Everton to sign him permanently.

Everton could renegotiate with Chelsea over Tyrique George

It’s been reported by the Liverpool Echo that Everton could now seek to negotiate with Chelsea over George.

When Everton landed him in January, the club negotiated a £25 million buy option, but the accepted logic has been that he would need to break into the starting XI for it to be triggered.

That hasn’t happened, and now Everton could try and get him for less.

But any move is likely to be dictated by the finances involved, not the manager’s personal feeling.

Moyes ‘is open to exploring a deal after the season, depending on the impact the cost will have on his wider ability to do business’.

Everton kept their powder dry in January, of course. But seemingly there is still a desire to save money where possible.

George has been disappointingly underused

It may well be that Moyes likes George and sees potential in the player, but his use of him has been disappointing.

For him to have started just one game so far is a real surprise, especially when he’s had several lively cameos and has looked a threat.

Indeed, George has drawn praise from fans for injecting urgency and unpredictability when coming on in games, and it’s been a shame to see him spend so much time on the bench.

The situation has been made all the more frustrating given the poor form of Iliman Ndiaye, who has looked very jaded in recent weeks.

Moyes leaning on Dwight McNeil has also been questionable.

Realistically, Everton can’t be spending £25 million on George this summer based on what he’s shown so far, so seeking renegotiations makes sense.
