Everton have confirmed the signing of Merlin Rohl from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg.
Merlin Rohl becomes the Toffees’ ninth signing of the summer, with David Moyes just one off his targets of 10.
In the end, despite a slow start, Moyes can be pleased with the transfer business Everton have done, with Rohl strengthening a key area of the pitch.
The Germany under-21 international joins with a big reputation and gives the Merseysiders something different in midfield.
He has been speaking to Everton’s media team after completing the deadline day switch, and his first words prove the club is heading in the right direction.

Merlin Rohl explains why he joined Everton
For years, Everton have had to rely on the draw of Premier League football to recruit players, rather than selling an ambitious project.
But, that’s no longer the case this summer, as Rohl has admitted he can see the evolution of the club and the lofty trajectory it has.
“I’m really excited and full of joy to sign for Everton,” the 23-year-old explained.
“It’s a big club, with great history and great fans. It’s the right time for me to join Everton. It feels like a shifting point for the club. The future looks really good and I’m excited to be part of it.
“I’ve watched the evolution of the Club closely. With the manager and stadium, there are a lot of positives.
“I just love to play football and can’t wait to play in front of such passionate fans in such a great stadium.”
What David Moyes has said about Merlin Rohl
Moyes has admitted that Everton have been scouting Rohl for some time, with the former Hammers boss facing him in the Europa League a couple of seasons ago.
“We’re really pleased to bring Merlin to Everton,” the Scotsman said.
“He’s a Germany Under-21 international who will add different qualities to our existing midfield options.
“He’s an exciting prospect who we’ve followed at the Club for some time, and we’re all looking forward to working with him as we continue to build a squad and team at Everton.”
Rohl is believed to have joined on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy worth around £18m.
