What sources close to Farhad Moshiri are insisting about Everton’s takeover after latest court case

It’s fair to say that, throughout his reign at Everton, Farhad Moshiri has not endured the most straightforward of times.

After all, what likely seemed like a shrewd business project at the time has quickly regressed into an activity that has siphoned hundreds of millions out of his bank account.

And, frustratingly for all involved, he has nothing to show for it.

What makes things even worse is that, despite having feigned indifference throughout the last year and a half of his tenure, more setbacks are still just around the corner.

In fact, a fresh one has just emerged.

Farhad Moshiri sources react to Alisher Usmanov court case

The latest on the Toffees’ ownership struggles, particularly with Farhad Moshiri, has been detailed by The Athletic.

And, their update is far from a good one.

With supporters anxiously awaiting news on John Textor’s Everton takeover, instead they have been met with fresh controversy surrounding their awol owner, who is now set to be sued by former business associate Alisher Usmanov.

Now whilst many might fear how that will affect Everton, given how the Russian oligarch was a well-documented aid in the Iranian’s project, the report does go into detail later on about that notion.

In fact, sources from Moshiri have even refuted it, as it claims: ‘One concern for bidders, which at least one group has discussed, is whether any payment to Moshiri is at risk of breaking sanction laws if the purchase money is used to pay damages to Usmanov — though one source close to Moshiri with knowledge of the case insists that UK laws and regulations would prevent him from paying damages.’

A fresh twist on Everton’s takeover saga

Although this source seeks to ease fan fears regarding how this might impact the takeover, there’s no denying that fresh controversy is the last thing that Everton needed.

Especially with Moshiri so desperate to sell, with his bargaining position weakening with each passing week.

He will have had grand aspirations when he took over at Goodison Park, to develop this team into a consistent European fixture whilst slowly building towards a new stadium.

Fortunately, he has delivered on the latter promise, but that is about the only thing he has confidently gotten right.

Other than that, there has been turmoil and unrest galore, with financial restrictions, punishments and ownership struggles polluting his tenure.

This takeover saga has spanned over 12 months now and included far more than just John Textor in the process, but hopefully he can continue to affirm his desire to take charge and look past this latest twist in the road.
