Whether Dan Friedkin could replace Sean Dyche with Gareth Southgate after completing Everton takeover

At this moment in time, there are so many names swirling around Everton regarding who they might employ as their new manager.

Even though Sean Dyche still remains in the post and, by all accounts, retains the backing of the decision-makers at the club too.

Dan Friedkin might see things differently, having shown his cutthroat nature by sacking Danielle de Rossi this very season, but for now, the American is not yet in charge.

However, that does not stop the rumour mill from turning, with the club’s long-term plans surely a more pertinent base for discussion.

Are Everton interested in Gareth Southgate?

Speaking exclusively to Everton.News, journalist Graeme Bailey continued to provide further updates on Everton’s managerial situation, just after suggesting that David Moyes was the frontrunner to replace Sean Dyche.

However, when asked about rumours linking Gareth Southgate to the Everton job, he was quick to dismiss them in the short term.

He could not rule out the long-term potential of an appointment though, noting: ‘I’m not saying that Southgate isn’t on Friedkin’s mind, but I think he’d be someone more long-term who Friedkin would like. As I said, the current thinking is short-term.

‘That’s not to say that Southgate couldn’t come in. Southgate is in the Manchester United thinking as well, and Southgate knows that.

‘I don’t see Southgate jumping into Everton that quickly. Not without Friedkin being properly at the helm.’

What other managers are Everton looking at?

Whilst Southgate and Moyes have both already been mentioned, they are not the only options being considered by the Everton hierarchy and Friedkin.

After all, many other names have been discussed, with some far more plausible than others.

One target that would make sense perhaps at the end of the season is Graham Potter, with the former Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion boss having been out of work since his dismissal last year.

His ideals would likely take some time to implement though, and would be an unintelligent short-term option.

However, Lee Carsley on the other hand could inspire the club upon his return to Goodison Park, not only injecting the fans with some much-needed enthusiasm, but also offering a long-term plan to take the club forward.

This duo represents far more intelligent alternatives to Moyes and Southgate, both of whom are renowned for their at times negative play styles.
