Everton remain in the market for a new right-back, but a new claim about Brooke Norton-Cuffy may suggest it’s time to end their pursuit.
The new Premier League season is only 30 days away now, and the Toffees still haven’t brought in a new signing for the right side of their defence.

Right-back has long been a priority position, with Seamus Coleman leaving at the end of last season and Jake O’Brien projected to move into the middle. Nathan Patterson is also expected to be sold.
Norton-Cuffy has emerged as a target for Everton again in recent weeks, having also been looked at in the middle of last season.
However, The i Paper have made a claim today that suggests the club ought to move on.
Brooke Norton-Cuffy not universally backed within Everton
According to the publication, Norton-Cuffy is admired by some within the Everton hierarchy, but not all.
They write: “The priority for Everton is to sign a new right-back.
“The club have considered a move for long-term target Brooke Norton-Cuffy, the 22-year-old Genoa full-back, but that deal does not have universal support among the club’s transfer power brokers, so they are looking at alternative targets.”
In light of this, there is an argument now to say that the pursuit of Norton-Cuffy should end.
If not everyone is in agreement about the signing, it is probably not a good idea to bring him in.
Unfortunately, there is no word here about how David Moyes feels about the player. His opinion is the most important and perhaps ought to override everyone else’s.
But it really is important that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet in terms of transfers this summer.
We have seen how a lot of last summer’s recruits have not yet made an impact at Everton.
Tyler Dibling, Adam Aznou and, to a lesser extent, Merlin Rohl – who are all around the same age as Norton-Cuffy – have struggled to get regular minutes at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

He has strong competition for minutes in midfield with the likes of Garner, Hackney and KDH… 🤔
Rohl has now signed permanently and will hopefully kick on in his second season, but Dibling and Aznou have both been linked with exits after just one season.
So if there is uncertainty for some people over Norton-Cuffy this time around, it might be wise for the club to switch focus to other players.
It’s not ideal given time is of the essence, but Everton don’t want to risk making the wrong signing.
