Marcus Rashford took the headlines this transfer window after making his move to Aston Villa from Manchester United but Jamie Carragher said he should join Everton in 2018.

Everton themselves didn’t take the headlines as a quiet window was the outcome at Goodison Park.

Moyes was happy with the one signing as the Friedkin Group didn’t plan on wasting any more funds.

A Premier League team that did have a busy winter was Villa who acquired Rashford from Man United, after he was left in the dark by Ruben Amorim.

Despite being at Villa now, Rashford was urged for a slightly different move seven years ago, in the form of Everton.

Why Jamie Carragher told Marcus Rashford he should join Everton

United and Rashford didn’t end things on good terms as the 27-year-old has departed his boyhood club for the first time.

It may recall familiar circumstances at Everton as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s situation was similar to Rashford’s at one point.

Well the Toffees could’ve had both players on their books if Rashford took the advice of Jamie Carragher.

Rashford scored the only goal in England’s UEFA Nations League 1-0 victory over Switzerland in 2018, as during the Sky Sports coverage, Carragher made a claim on Rashford.

The pundit stated that a move to Everton would not only prove to be beneficial for the 20-year-old at the time but that it should also be considered “for the sake of his career” after the United player wasn’t getting much game time under Jose Mourinho.

Carragher compared Rashford’s scenario to that of former Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who was at United.

“Romelu Lukaku is in front of Rashford and I don’t see Rashford displacing him as long as he is there. But remember when Lukaku was at Chelsea and he had to come away and go to Everton?” Carragher said.

“Then he ended up as top scorer and got his move to Manchester United.

“Possibly Everton is the sort of club you are looking at, just below the top six, for someone like Rashford, similar to what Lukaku did.”

Everton plotted move for Rashford from Man United in 2018

The Villa forward has his connections with the Toffees as Rashford has a close bond with Ashley Young.

Now it may have looked like an unlikely prospect, but Rashford moving to Everton wasn’t a complete stab in the dark.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton, Leicester, and Newcastle were among the clubs lining up to take Rashford on loan in the summer of 2018.

Due to his limited game time under Mourinho, Rashford wasn’t happy, of course we know this improved up until the England international left United a few days ago.

It’s an exciting prospect for Evertonians to think about, as had the forward took Carragher’s proposal, Rashford could be donning the blue strip of Everton at Goodison today.
