Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are footballing legends and are still considered among the best players on the planet.
The world-class duo shared the pitch together at Paris Saint-Germain and formed a great bond both on and off the pitch.
Neymar was also part of the Galitico-esque side that billionaire owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi assembled in the hope of finally winning the Champions League.
The quality-littered squad had Idrissa Gana Gueye’s services for a short period, too, before he rejoined Everton in 2022.
During Gueye’s spell in the French capital, he became good friends with the aforementioned trio and with that said, here’s the story of how he convinced Mbappe to start watching Everton despite Messi’s disapproval.
Idrissa Gueye convinced Kylian Mbappe to watch Everton
Reminiscing on his three-year spell at PSG, Gueye revealed that he was always watching Everton games and even convinced Mbappe to join him.
“Mbappe, yeah he would watch,” the Everton midfielder told The Mirror.
“He liked to watch every game. Messi, no. It was difficult for me because we were losing a lot and he would say, ‘Bro come on you see your team is losing and playing like this?’ but it was funny.
“I used to send Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate and Jordan Pickford messages ‘Bro, please do it!’. It was important for me to support and show I was there for them.”
Gueye also urged Julian Draxler to join Everton
Gueye also spoke about the Everton banter he had with Julian Draxler and revealed he urged him to make the switch to Goodison Park.
“It was difficult in the last year, we keep supporting, we believed,” the veteran midfielder said.
“I remember [Julian] Draxler every time we lose, he would go ‘you see your team, they are not good!’ and I would say, ‘We will survive’ so the day we survived against Crystal Palace he said ‘you were lucky’ and I said ‘I told you’. I told him to come to Everton but he hasn’t listened!”
Interestingly, Everton did try to sign Draxler in 2016, but he ultimately completed a £40m switch to Paris six months later.
