Everton needed to beat Crystal Palace and did on Wednesday night to give fans something positive on what’s been a bad week.
When Andre Gomes‘ free kick nestled into the back of the net past Sam Johnstone to give Everton the lead and ultimately all three points, finally Goodison Park fans had something to be happy about. This week up until the FA Cup victory was going from bad to worse for the Toffees as everything fell apart.
Firstly, the Premier League charged Everton with a second PSR breach – despite the club being adamant of innocence – which could result in a further points deduction. Alongside this, the prospective takeover by 777 Partners was cast into doubt due to investigations ongoing into the funding behind their takeover bid.
Journalist Paul Brown also cast some doubt onto the takeover in which he admitted that it seemed that 777 were ‘pessimistic’ over the deal. He explained that the 777 Partners simply weren’t acting in a manner befitting a group who were confident of success.
Now though despite reports this week to the contrary, it seems the takeover is still on the cards.

777 Partners were at Goodison for Palace win
In the win over Palace to send Everton to a FA Cup fourth-round tie against Luton Town at the end of January, attention was diverted to the 777 Partners who were spectating.
This seems to suggest that hopes are still high over the takeover and now BBC Merseyside’s Giulia Bould has shared an update of her own.
Taking to X during the game she tweeted: “I understand that John Wander, founder of 777 looking to buy #EFC, and the business delegation from 777 have been in Liverpool all day. They visited club staff at the Royal Liver Building & Bramley Moore Dock stadium site. 777 waiting [for] Premier League approval for a takeover”.
777 are now acting like the takeover is close
Visiting staff and the site of the new stadium is a fairly big indicator that Premier League approval of the takeover could be near.
Unfortunately, it won’t happen with much time in the window – if any – for the new owners to make their mark and bring Dyche some reinforcements.
However, it’s looking like at long last we are in the endgame of the takeover and hopefully, 777 are everything that Farhad Moshiri isn’t.
