Thierno Barry started a journey towards redemption at Everton on Monday after scoring twice in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City.
Everton fans had been livid with the Frenchman in recent weeks, taking aim at the striker for a woeful Merseyside derby display and another anonymous outing in the 2-1 loss at West Ham.
A brace against Manchester City is a fine way for Thierno Barry to redeem himself, but the Everton No.11 was still seen apologising to fans inside the Hill Dickinson Stadium during the draw after carelessly losing possession in a dangerous area.
Do we all owe this man an apology after his performance against Man City? 👀
Credit where it's due, he was absolutely fantastic! 👏
Thierno Barry moment shows what David Moyes needs to coach him on next
In the dying stages, as Everton desperately needed someone to hold the ball up and show some game management skills, the 23-year-old foolishly tried a scooped pass which didn’t come off, giving Manchester City another chance to attack.
The groans were audible inside the ground, and Barry – keen to keep the supporters onside having only just won them back – held his hands up to apologise.
Ultimately, the Lyon-born striker wasn’t the only one to blame for Manchester City sustaining enough pressure to eventually nick a point.
There were several instances where Everton found themselves in promising positions late on through Charly Alcaraz and Iliman Ndiaye, but the decision-making was poor and Manchester City always got the ball back quickly enough.
Not one player even attempted to run towards the corner flag and kill some time, which is truly surprising considering Moyes is at the helm.
The 63-year-old has now overseen 751 Premier League games, so game management should be high on his list of skills.
Who is to blame for this? 🙄
This is becoming a real issue for Everton and costing them valuable points! 😭
It is ultimately down to the players, however, so hopefully, Barry – who Moyes defended – will show a bit more maturity next time Everton are leading a game late on, and has the presence of mind to strangle the life out of the match.
