David Moyes has called on The Friedkin Group to spend more cash on new players.
The Everton boss has now told The Wayne Rooney Show that the Toffees “need a bit of money” spent on the squad in order to progress, and bridge the gap to the European places.
Moyes said: “We need a bit of time, but we probably need a bit of money as well. I think now if you’re going to do it, you probably need it, I wish we were talking about not requiring money to make a big difference in football.
“But I think that nowadays, you’re seeing the promoted teams coming up, they’re probably spending over £100 million when they get promoted.”
The message itself is true enough, but why would The Friedkin Group listen to Moyes after the events of the 2025/26 campaign?
If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰
David Moyes has no right to ask for more cash
If the likes of Oliver Glasner or Andoni Iraola were at the helm, then The Friedkin Group should absolutely splash out on the squad.
However, after seeing Moyes spend £40m on Tyler Dibling back in August, only to give the 20-year-old just four starts in the Premier League, why would The Friedkin Group trust him with more money?
Not only that, but a total of £22m was spent on Merlin Rohl – who started only six Premier League games – not to mention the £8m signing of Adam Aznou, who did not appear once in the Premier League.
Despite ending the season with a respectable haul of eight goals in 38 Premier League games for a 23-year-old playing in England for the first time, the £27m signing of Thierno Barry also looks to be a poor use of funds at this moment in time.
That was a disgraceful performance from Everton… something has to change! 😤
If you had millions of pounds and owned a football club, would you give Moyes another heap of cash to spend on players after seeing how last summer’s arrivals were treated? We certainly wouldn’t.
