David Moyes has made it very clear to The Friedkin Group that he wants to see money spent properly this summer.
Everton certainly spent last summer, with Tyler Dibling becoming the seventh-most expensive teenager in football history.
Questions can be asked, however, over how wisely The Friedkin Group and Angus Kinnear spent over last summer’s market.
Everton need a transfer budget of at least _________ this summer
Fill in the blank…
Given the manner in which Moyes and his side ended the 2025/26 campaign, spending is clearly going to be needed to see any improvement.

David Moyes’ transfer demand to The Friedkin Group at Everton
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall slammed Everton’s poor end to the season, which did ultimately cost the club the opportunity to compete in European football.
Whether Everton had a squad good enough to compete is another question, but Moyes is demanding progression over the coming months in the market.
“We need a bit of time, but we probably need a bit of money as well. I think now if you’re going to do it, you probably need it, I wish we were talking about not requiring money to make a big difference in football,” Moyes said on The Wayne Rooney Show.
If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰
“But I think that nowadays, you’re seeing the promoted teams coming up, they’re probably spending over £100 million when they get promoted.”
Some will argue Moyes has cost Everton millions through their lacklustre end to the season, which hindered their earnings through their league finish.
“There’s mid-band teams and then obviously the teams at the top. By the way, the money doesn’t always guarantee success. You have to sign well and try and get the right players,” Moyes added.
“But I think it gives you a chance to maybe do it. So I don’t think we need to be a club which is spending loads, but I think we need to be progressing and try to make another step up in the ladder if we can.”
Clubs like Tottenham Hotspur have proven money does not always translate into progression, with the Lilywhites only narrowly avoiding relegation.
However, Everton are in a position where some smart spending could propel them into the mix for European qualification.
The tricky part is spending it on players who the manager wants to use and is able to utilise in his squad.
Tyrique George has not flourished under Moyes at Everton following his loan move in January, which has to be used as a lesson in the upcoming market by the recruitment team.
With some Everton supporters wanting Moyes replaced, there will be plenty on Merseyside who may be cautious over how much the club provides the Scot to spend this summer.
