Everton saw a lot of players leave the club over the summer and one player has now revealed he had a big opportunity to also leave.

David Moyes saw considerable player turnover with numerous players seeing their contracts come to an end on Merseyside.

It was the first summer in charge for The Friedkin Group, who certainly put their money where their mouth is to back their 62-year-old manager.

After seeing nine new faces come through the doors at Finch Farm, Moyes was delighted with Everton’s transfer business.

Everton star admits he had offers to leave this summer

Michael Keane has been praised by Everton fans as a player reborn this season as he fills in for the injured Jarrad Branthwaite.

The veteran centre-back inked a new deal after seeing his contract expire back in June.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Keane has admitted that he did consider potentially moving to another club as a free agent.

“I mean I’ve not played a lot of football the last couple of years and it was a a tough decision over the summer,” said Keane. (2:37)

“I think I was looking at other options and I think the club were also looking at other options and we managed to come to an agreement and I’ve always known the quality that I still have and that I can bring a lot to this team.”

Keane has hailed Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, but the 32-year-old has been almost as impressive at the back.

Considering Branthwaite remains out through injury, potentially losing Keane in the summer could have proven a real disaster for Moyes.

David Moyes so impressed by Michael Keane for Everton

Speaking to the media at Finch Farm ahead of the game on Monday evening, Moyes sang Keane’s praises.

“As it is, Michael Keane has played really well. He’s filled in great. So, it’s covered us a little bit,” said Moyes on Friday.

Keane has insisted Jordan Pickford does not get the recognition he deserves in between the sticks for the Toffees.

On the back of his performances at the back for Everton this season, there may be a lot of Everton fans thinking the same about Keane.
