Everton seem set to endure a dull end to deadline day, a day that started with such promise.
After all, when things got underway, there was hope that, as well as Everton’s completed deal for Orel Mangala, there would be a new winger and a new right-back to join as well.
And yet, neither seem set to materialise.
Instead, it has been a day dominated by outgoings, with Neal Maupay having left Everton, and others linked with a departure.
This latest update concerns another potential ongoing whose exit would likely leave Evertonians delighted.
Mason Holgate could still leave Everton on deadline day
The Daily Mail have provided this much-needed piece of information regarding the future of Mason Holgate, who has constantly been linked with an exit, to no avail.
There is no place for him at Everton, and that is quite clear, with Kevin Thelwell thankfully recognising that.

It’s worth questioning why he has waited until deadline day to push him out, though.
Regardless, at last the club are moving in the right direction, and Holgate’s sale could still happen even if one deal has already fallen through.
The report reads: ‘Everton defender Mason Holgate was in talks to join French club Lyon but that is now off the table.
‘Sheffield Wednesday and others are monitoring the situation and exploring whether to make their move.’
Everton are stacked at centre-back now without Mason Holgate
There are countless reasons why Everton no longer want Holgate, with his dwindling quality chief among them.
However, the depth that Sean Dyche has amassed in this role is another explanation too, with three strong centre-backs now present at Goodison Park, and even then another lower-quality option ahead of the £70k-a-week dud.
When fit, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite are the nailed-on starters for Everton, having formed a phenomenal partnership at the back across the last 12 months.
And, with the new signing of Jake O’Brien, Holgate falls even further down the pecking order.

Michael Keane may not be well-liked by the fans, but even he is preferred by Dyche.
It would be best for all parties involved if Holgate does leave, but with just a year left on his current deal, it remains to be seen whether he will just stick around and try to snag a larger signing-on fee next summer.
