Everton have finally tied up their first signing of the deadline day, and by all accounts, it could well be their only one.
After all, every target that Kevin Thelwell has identified has gone awry in the final weeks of the window, in a dramatic change of pace from how they started the summer.
Snagging Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye, Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien with minimal fuss marked a refreshing change of pace for this football club, who so often get embroiled in long, tiring transfer sagas.
This has not quite been as elongated, but it has certainly had its ebbs and flows, making this conclusion all the more satisfying.
Everton complete their first deadline-day signing
The latest on Everton’s transfer plans comes courtesy of Sacha Tavolieri, who has taken to X to deliver the good news to fans.
After all, at last, after threats that Orel Mangala’s Everton move had fallen through, he is set to complete his Goodison Park move.

It has been a hotly-anticipated deal, which will be a straight loan with no buy options, but that will be enough to tide Sean Dyche over for another campaign.
The journalist simply wrote: ‘Orel Mangala sign his loan contract deal with #EvertonFC in one hour. Everything’s already sealed & completed.’
Who else could Everton sign this deadline day after Orel Mangala?
Unfortunately, at present Mangala seems set to be the one and only deadline day signing for Everton.
After all, despite being linked with a whole host of new faces, none of these transfer rumours have snowballed into anything concrete.

Instead, it seems far more likely that their own players will leave, as Chelsea want Dominic Calvert-Lewin whilst Mason Holgate has no future at Everton.
Everton did want Ernest Nuamah, but Fulham seem to have won that race, whilst there has been no right-back progress either, with neither Kieran Tripper nor Lorenz Assignon moving towards completion.
It’s a frustrating turn of events, but fortunately there’s still plenty of time for Thelwell to turn things around.
