Everton’s fine form under David Moyes continued on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the surprise package of the season Nottingham Forest.
Everton have now picked up four points against two top-four sides in the last week, so there’s certainly plenty of reason to be optimistic ahead of the new season.
“We’re challenging some of the best teams in the league at the moment, which is a great sign for me.” David Moyes said.

Dwight McNeil made a real impact off the bench and Everton fans agree that he was the difference-maker despite only playing for a few minutes.
McNeil laid on the assist for Abdoulaye Doucoure’s stoppage-time winner, which moves Everton 18 points clear of the bottom three.
Doucoure earned most of the plaudits and taking to his Instagram after the game, the matchwinner said he loves playing with one Toffees star in particular.

Abdoulaye Doucoure say he loves playing with Idrissa Gueye
Doucoure has been a key fixture in Everton’s midfield since his £20m transfer from Watford in 2020.
The Frenchman has had his critics, and this summer is probably the right time to move him on, but there’s no doubt he’s been a good servant for the club.
Doucoure has been helped by the return of Idrissa Gueye in 2022, as the veteran midfielder has allowed him to push up the field and contribute in the final third.
That was on show again yesterday with the former Watford man bursting forward in the dying minutes to slot home McNeil’s cutting pass.
And, taking to Instagram stories after the win, Doucoure posted a photo of him and Gueye, with the caption: “Love playing with this machine.”
Gueye deserves new deal
Gueye, like Doucoure, is out of contract at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old’s deal expires at the end of June and after his performances this season, Everton should be offering him a one-year extension.
Moving into the new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium will bring its challenges, so Moyes will need experienced heads in the changing room.
An Everton insider has revealed that the club will look to extend Gueye’s contract, so the ball is now in his court.
Moyes would love Gueye to sign a new deal.
