Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on Everton’s chances of staying up following their point deduction.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, the former striker predicted Goodison Park to become a ‘horrible’ place to visit for the remainder of the campaign.
Everton were docked ten points last week after they were found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules.
Premier League clubs are allowed to post losses of £105 million over three years, however the Toffees were found to have lost around £20m over the limit up to the 2021-22 campaign.
The club were referred to an independent regulator, who then handed them the biggest sporting sanction in the Premier League‘s history.
The point deduction leaves Everton in 19th place in the top flight, only two points from safety.
After a run of six wins in nine games in all competitions, Sean Dyche‘s side have been full of confidence and will still be in high spirit as they prepare to take on Manchester United this weekend.
Alan Shearer is adamant that their recent punishment will only make Goodison Park a harder place to go, and admitted that he thinks the club will still stay up.
Speaking on the podcast, Shearer said: “I think they can do it. If you had said to be before a ball was kicked that they were going to be minus 10, I’d have said no chance.
“I thought that they would just have enough anyway, but I’ve been impressed with the job that they have done.

“I think what will happen now is that Goodison Park will be a horrible place to go for teams because it will be a siege mentality, us against the world.
“I think because of the standard of the league at the bottom, I think they’ll have enough to get out of it.”
Everton have already put plans into place to build up a terrifying atmosphere at Goodison Park, though that is mainly aimed at the Premier League rather than the opposing team.
Will Everton be beaten at Goodison Park?
Toffees supporters are set to host a mass protest on Sunday, which will include banners, planes and flags on Merseyside.
As Everton look to cause havoc this weekend, there is no doubt that such an atmosphere and unity will be made clear for the rest of the season.
Their anger is aimed towards the Premier League, but it could well be visitors that suffer the consequences.
Everton players and fans will be riled up against the Red Devils and we will soon get to see the full impact of their frustrations.
