Everton are set to appoint Manchester United’s academy chief Nick Cox.
The Friedkin Group identified Everton’s academy as a weak point a few months into their tenure and have been revamping the whole model lately.
A source close to the club labelled the academy recruitment a ‘disgrace’ earlier this year, with just 40 scouts at grassroots level.
During David Moyes’ first reign at the club, they employed 300, so clearly investment was needed in that department.
The American investors are doing just that, as evidenced by the statement appointment of Cox from Man United.
Here’s how United fans have reacted to Cox joining Everton.

Man United fans admit Nick Cox is ‘one of the best’ as he nears Everton move
Man United fans have been reacting to Cox’s departure on X, formerly known as Twitter, this morning, and they’re absolutely gutted.
“Massive loss to the club. Fair play on the job he’s done and all the best at his new role,” @Jamie89Wilson said.
“This is a huge huge loss for us, has done unbelievable work in the academy and really understood the culture of the club. Now is the time to go get Jim Fraser,” @Utd_Mas added.
@siebenball explained: “This being one of the few notable departures from the club is really frustrating.”
@mufcacademy91co posted: “This is really bad news but all I can say now is to wish Nick the very best in his future, he’s really made a huge impact on our academy.”
“Ah man this is such a blow for United. Thanks for all your excellent work @Coxy3012. Everton have got one of the best,” @BenMUFC8 commented.
@RedMarrow_ said: “Big loss for United. Nick redefined our academy. He will be missed. All the best @Coxy3012.”
Cox was headhunted by Everton
Cox has actually rejected approaches from multiple clubs as well as governing bodies, amplifying just how highly-rated he is.
So it’s quite the coup that Everton have managed to prise him away from Carrington, as they headhunted him for the job.
It’s understood Cox, who has recently earned his UEFA Pro Licence, is excited by the opportunity to work under the Friedkins as they show serious ambition to make the academy one of the best in the country.
The 47-year-old chief has implemented a terrific culture around United’s academy and has a fine track record of creating a pathway for talented youngsters to become first-teamers.
So, it’s all looking very positive on Merseyside, with the Friedkins also ready to hand Moyes a substantial budget once the financial year ends this month.
