Martin Keown has told Liverpool not to go into the Merseyside derby with the assumption that it will be a ‘walkover’.
Writing for the Mail Online, the former defender has suggested that Everton are very capable of causing an ‘almighty upset’ at Anfield today.
While the Toffees have only taken one win from Liverpool on the road since 1999, Sean Dyche‘s side will be brimming with confidence after winning three of their last four matches in all competitions.
While the Reds finally fell to defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, there is no surprise that Liverpool remain the favourites to claim the bragging rights in another highly anticipated derby.

Despite this, Martin Keown believes the hosts would be making a mistake to underestimate their bitter rivals this afternoon.
“A word of warning for those expecting an easy win for Liverpool today: these derby days can be a great leveller,” Keown said.
“Even the most elite player can let his heart rule his head and by full-time, you can find yourself celebrating a win that nobody else thought was possible.
“Sean Dyche’s Everton will believe it is their turn to cause an almighty upset. Though they are 16th in the Premier League after winning none of their first five fixtures, they have now won two of their last three, and Liverpool should not make the mistake of thinking this will be a walkover.”
Can Everton beat the odds to defeat Liverpool?
Everton have looked a very different team over the past few games, but their disappointing defeat to Luton Town suggests they could still be prone to a thrashing by Liverpool if they aren’t at their best.
However, the Toffees are very much the underdogs in this battle and will likely thrive off that.

While Liverpool have been favourites in the derby for years now, the recent performances of the likes of James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite make an upset all the more likely, especially when the Reds couldn’t be anymore confident.
If Sean Dyche’s side can target Kostas Tsimikas on the left of their defence, and perhaps look to add to their four red cards already, then there is nothing to say we couldn’t see a decent result at Anfield.
