Everton have had some brilliant centre-forwards during the Premier League era.

Romelu Lukaku instantly springs to mind, as he is actually Everton’s top scorer since the league rebranded back in 1992.

Lukaku tops the charts with 68 Premier League goals, closely followed by the legendary Duncan Ferguson on 60.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes third spot with 57, whilst Tim Cahill and Kevin Campbell complete the top five.

But, Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has actually claimed that a different former Everton striker was even better than Ballon d’Or winner George Weah.

Amad Diallo says former Everton striker Samuel Eto’o was better than George Weah

Speaking to beIN Sports France, Man United star Amad Diallo was asked who the better player was out of Weah and former Toffees centre-forward Samuel Eto’o.

Diallo pondered for a second and then went for Eto’o, who scored four goals in 20 appearances for the Merseysiders.

Indeed, Eto’o’s best years were spent at Barcelona, where he was widely considered as one of the best players on the planet.

The Cameroon international netted 130 times in 199 games for the La Liga giants, winning the title on three occasions.

Whilst he never won the Ballon d’Or, Eto’o holds the record for the most nominations for an African player.

Samuel Eto’o reflects on Everton career

Speaking back in 2019, Eto’o reflected on his career at Everton and admitted he was ‘disappointed’ by how short it was.

“I was disappointed to be a Everton for only a short period,” the striker explained.

“When I came I knew I was joining another big club, no doubt. I had played a lot at all my previous clubs and managed to entertain the fans, while achieving a lot of different things.

“But at Everton, even though I played in a few games, I don’t think the fans ever saw the real Samuel Eto’o. A bit like at Chelsea, I don’t think they saw the best of me there either.”

Eto’o only spent five months at Everton before moving on a free transfer to Serie A outfit Sampdoria in the January window.
