The January transfer window is upon us and Everton are expected to be busy in the market.

David Moyes wants to sign a new striker and has drawn up a three-man shortlist which includes Ivan Toney, Artem Dovbyk and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Alan Myers reckons a midfielder and full-back are also on the Toffees’ radar, with Moyes keen to bolster his squad.

Everton also have business to do internally, and it’s understood that James Garner will sign a new contract this month.

In addition to that, the club are also expected to activate a one-year extension on one of their other first-teamers who is soon to be out of contract.

Everton expected to extend Vitaliy Mykolenko’s contract

Vitaliy Mykolenko has been locked in contract talks since last summer, with his current deal due to expire in June.

Now, Ukrainian outlet Sport Express are reporting that Everton are planning to extend his contract until 2027 amid interest overseas.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are keen on landing his signature and were trying to engage in talks with him this month.

But, Mykolenko has no interest in leaving the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and clearly Moyes wants to keep him in his squad despite rumours linking Antonee Robinson with a return to Merseyside.

It’s understood that the 51-cap Ukraine international wants to remain in a top-five league and doesn’t deem the Super Lig as the right fit for his career.

Everton have been linked to Nathan Ake

Even if Mykolenko signs a new deal, it seems as though Moyes will look to sign an upgrade and make him a backup.

Everton have been linked to Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, who was actually a target in the last transfer window.

Adam Aznou could also be Mykolenko’s successor, but he may need a loan move first to continue his development.

The Toffees are willing to greenlight Aznou’s loan this month, with Dutch powerhouses Ajax showing an interest.

A telling month lies ahead for the Merseysiders.
