Everton transfer target Angelo Preciado once played his best football on the biggest stage of all, being involved with a striker Toffees fans will know all too well.

Everton have had many signings over the years which will be labelled as flops at Goodison Park.

Most recently Neal Maupay struggled with the Toffees, as the relationship with the player and club turned sour after Maupay’s controversial post on Everton’s form.

David Moyes will want signings through the door this January and will be hoping new arrivals won’t follow the same suit as the French striker.

Everton are on the verge of signing Preciado as the Ecuadorian could become Moyes’ first signing of his second spell, but the transfer target has a history with one of Everton’s failed signings.

Angelo Preciado has World Cup history with Everton flop Enner Valencia

Many fans won’t want to hear the name Enner Valencia again, as the Ecuadorian striker endured a tough time at Goodison Park.

Valencia signed on a season-long loan from West Ham after he struggled at the Hammers hoping to find form with the Toffees.

This didn’t quite work out for the then 27-year-old, who couldn’t quite make his mark.

Valencia ended up with just three goals from 21 Premier League appearances which lead to no permanent move for the striker.

However, five seasons on, Valencia was in the headlines again, scoring in the Qatar World Cup opener as Ecuador beat hosts Qatar 2-0 with the Everton flop grabbing a brace.

A certain Preciado played his part, assisting Valencia’s second of the game with a brilliant cross from the right, which planted on the head of the striker in the 31st minute.

Something the Everton fans could look forward to in Moyes’ side.

Ronald Koeman called Valencia ‘a good signing’ at Everton in 2017

Ronald Koeman could be considered a flop manager as opposed to Valencia being a flop player.

It could be a harsh remark after the Dutchman guided Everton to 7th in the 16/17 season, but after Koeman was sacked the following campaign for leaving Everton in the bottom three, it probably evens out.

Phil Jagielka said Koeman struggled with Everton’s club size which is what he believed lead to his exit.

Koeman saw Valencia as a ‘good signing’ for Everton after he spoke in a post-match interview after Everton’s 3-0 win against Southampton in 2017, with Valencia scoring.

“He can play a lot of different attacking positions and give the manager a lot of possibilities to change systems,” said Koeman.

“It is too early to make a final decision about his future but it was a good signing for us.

“We waited for an hour and I think at that stage we needed something different up front. He was one of the players who changed the game, scored the first goal, and created difficulties for Southampton.”

Despite Valencia’s rare performance, his Everton career wasn’t great on the whole, and for the Toffees fans’ sake, they will hope Preciado is the opposite.
