Ben Godfrey has sent a message to Everton fans on Instagram, after returning to Goodison Park at the weekend with Ipswich Town.

There was frustration for the Toffees, after they left slip a two-goal lead against the already relegated Tractor Boys.

Beto headed Everton in front, before Dwight McNeil then scored his first goal for the club since returning from injury.

But Julio Enciso stunned Everton with a wonder-strike, and then George Hirst then levelled for the visitors.

While Everton don’t have anything to play for, the nature of the draw will be annoying for Moyes.

Saturday’s game saw Ben Godfrey make his return to Goodison Park for the first time since he left the club last year.

Godfrey did a lap of Goodison Park applauding the Everton fans after Saturday’s draw, and now, the player has sent a message on social media.

Godfrey completed a loan move to Ipswich in January, after failing to play regularly at Atalanta.

Unfortunately for him, his stint with Ipswich also hasn’t gone to plan, and so far he’s only made five appearances.

He did not get on against Everton on Saturday.

But that didn’t stop him from showing his appreciation to the Everton fans.

And today, he has followed that up by sending a message to the Evertonians on Instagram, after the warm reception he got at Goodison.

He said: “Also a massive thank you to the fans and people of @everton for welcoming me back to a place/club I have fond memories of….Goodison Park what a gaff. All the best 💙👊🏽”

Why former Everton defender Godfrey hasn’t been playing for Ipswich

Godfrey could well be on the move again in the summer, following a pretty frustrating season.

In total for Atalanta and Ipswich he’s played just 10 times, and there have been several reasons why he hasn’t featured much at Portman Road.

Kieran McKenna said recently (East Anglian Daily Times): “There’s been a couple of different reasons. He had some injury and illness in the couple of weeks after that (Tottenham). Other than that, we’ve gone with different selections in the last few weeks.

“Axel has performed very, very well and when Axel hasn’t been available, the balance with Dara playing in that position and Luke Woolfenden playing in the middle centre-back position has been we like as a balance.”

McKenna also admitted getting up to speed at first was a ‘challenge’ for Godfrey.
