Everton could end this summer’s transfer window having only spent around £50m on players.

A significant summer transfer window is needed at Everton following their dismal end to the 2025/26 campaign.

David Moyes’ side lacked the depth and quality required to get themselves over the line in the race for European qualification.

However, fans could be in for a rude awakening on Merseyside this summer, with new SCR regulations potentially set to hamstring the Blues.

Everton could be limited to £50m net spend this summer

Moyes has made his transfer demands clear to the Friedkins over recent weeks, as the 63-year-old wants to see the owners’ ambition.

The Toffees may be limited to what they can do in the market, with finance expert Professor Rob Wilson telling iNews that Everton may end the summer with a net spend of £40m-£50m.

“The reality for Everton is they’ll likely be close to the 85 per cent limit given their squad value and wages,” he said.

“The headroom will be around £30-40m at a maximum. Because they’re not in Europe the value of the squad will reduce ever so slightly, which helps them. I would expect them to sell one or maybe even two of their assets and possibly do some trading on top of that.

“I’d expect them to do a net spend of £40-50m. It’s tight but not an insurmountable challenge for them.”

Clearly, this is not what fans are going to want to hear as they hope for big changes over the summer.

Everton are progressing with a deal for Hayden Hackney, but his potential arrival may have to be balanced by the departure of another player.

In this case, that could be a relatively easy decision for the Blues, with Everton considering selling Tim Iroegbunam already.

Fortunately, midfield is an area where Everton already have a bloated list of players available to Moyes.

The same cannot be said in other areas of the field, as Everton enter the window looking for five additions.

Being stretched by the new financial regulations is the last thing the Friedkins will have wanted going into this summer.

A £50m limit on the summer spending is the kind of factor that has forced Everton into a big sale in the past.

With Iliman Ndiaye wanted by Manchester United, this news is likely only going to fuel speculation over his future this summer.

Over the years Everton have been forced into selling players like Amadou Onana to balance the books.

Being limited to around a mere £50m net spend this summer is hardly going to scratch the surface in the modern era of transfers.
