Everton have taken the lead in the race to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

Angus Kinnear and the Everton recruitment team want to make a splash in the market before the World Cup begins.

Hackney has been impressed with Everton’s proposal for him and is keen to make the move to Merseyside.

Hayden Hackney has decided on Everton during brief holiday

Middlesbrough want around £20m for Hackney this summer despite the midfielder only having 12 months remaining on his deal.

It would appear that Everton are comfortable with the valuation given they have opened talks with the player’s camp.

Speaking on A View From The Bullens, The Bobble has said Hackney is currently enjoying a brief holiday before his move to Everton progresses further.

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

“Hayden Hackney is now, I believe, on holiday. He’s having a very, very brief holiday and then, as soon as he gets back – hopefully, fingers crossed guys – it won’t be long then before he is in blue,” he said.

Everton are leading the race to sign Hackney despite the competition coming from a number of other Premier League clubs.

This will be down to the work of Kinnear and the recruitment team back at Finch Farm in winning Hackney over with their presentation.

Following Everton’s dismal end to the 2025/26 campaign, it was essential that the club made a convincing start to the market through a key addition.

Hackney won the Championship Player of the Season award for his performances in a Middlesbrough shirt.

Subject to interest from numerous other Premier League sides, it looks as if Everton could soon be adding another exciting talent from the second tier.
