Everton could soon welcome Callum Wilson to Merseyside.
The Toffees are exploring a move for Wilson as the 33-year-old holds talks with West Ham about terminating his contract, following the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe.
Nuno Espirito has left the England international out of his last two matchday squads after signing two new forwards, so a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium certainly seems possible.
If Everton do manage to hand David Moyes a new striker in Wilson, there might be an awkward chat to come involving Jordan Pickford.
Everton target Callum Wilson previously accused Jordan Pickford of showing “a lack of respect”
Back in December 2023 after Tottenham recorded a 4-1 win over Newcastle, Wilson was involved in a spat with Guglielmo Vicario.
Would YOU take Callum Wilson at Everton? 🤔
He can boast 92 goals in 256 Premier League appearances… ⚽️
When explaining what happened between himself and the Italian, the Coventry-born striker compared the situation to how Pickford ‘messes around’ in between the sticks for Everton by winding opposition players and fans up.
Wilson said: “There’s a way to win, isn’t there? I think we saw it in the week when Everton were winning and (Jordan) Pickford was messing around. The goalkeeper starts pulling faces and messing around and it’s just a lack of respect I thought.”
The former Bournemouth frontman was clearly irritated by how Vicario and the £30m Pickford go about their business in goal, but he may think different should he end up becoming teammates with the latter.
Callum Wilson deal makes a lot of sense for Everton
Some fans might be annoyed at the prospect of signing a 33-year-old from a side battling relegation.
However, the experienced Wilson – who can boast 92 goals in 256 Premier League appearances – makes a lot of sense for Moyes on a deal until the end of the season.
If you were David Moyes, which three players would you want to sign in January?
The striker market is rough right now, hence why West Ham just spent £50m to sign a forward with two goals in 11 games for Lazio in the first half of this season, and also one from Portugal who cost Gil Vicente only £250,000 last year.
Therefore, as Beto and Thierno Barry struggle to shine, Everton can rely on a proven player in Wilson to deliver in the second half of the campaign, before re-examining the striker market this summer.
