Everton are closing in on their first signing of the transfer window.

After weeks of pursuing a number of deals both domestically and abroad, Everton are finally close to adding to David Moyes’ squad.

Everton are set to sign Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo with a medical taking place today before an announcement is made.

The former Southampton and Juventus midfielder will join on an initial loan deal with a buy option that becomes mandatory if certain clauses are met.

Alcaraz joins with pedigree having impressed in the youth ranks with Argentina and even getting a senior call-up in 2023.

With that said, the soon-to-be Everton signing already has the seal of approval from his compatriot Lionel Messi.

Alcaraz is a really exciting addition in many ways for Everton not least after it’s come to light that Lionel Messi is tipping him to have a really bright future.

“We are talking about a huge talent destined to become a top player in a couple of years,” Ezequiel Schelotto, a former teammate of Alcaraz’s, told TuttoSport.

“He is considered an elite player in Argentina, so much so that even Leo Messi predicted a bright future for him.”

Alcaraz has shown glimpses of his promise at Southampton, Juventus and indeed Flamengo, but now he must find that consistency and back up the belief Messi has in him.

Alcaraz could be David Moyes’ new Marouane Fellaini

Since returning to Everton for a second spell, Moyes has admitted he hopes to recruit his next Marouane Fellaini.

The Scotsman found that in the shape of Tomas Soucek at West Ham United and now appears to be trying to utilise Abdoulaye Doucoure in that role.

But truthfully, Doucoure perhaps isn’t quite the profile of player he’s after, but Alcaraz certainly is and he’s much more suited to play in the attacking midfield role.

So it seems like a really smart addition by the Toffees and he could make his debut in the Merseyside derby in midweek.

Moyes is still eyeing Carney Chukwuemeka and perhaps another striker before the window slams shut on Monday.
