David Moyes will need a midfielder following the injury to Orel Mangala as options have been weighed up.

A signing of a new midfielder is no doubt still of interest to Moyes especially after Mangala’s setback.

The Belgian will be out for the rest of the season as Mangala received heartfelt messages from Everton stars.

This will now bring Moyes to pursue this position, as The Friedkin Group have been eyeing a midfielder for some time now.

Now, Everton have made their stance clear on who they want to sign in replacement for Mangala.

Everton abandon plans and now want Carney Chukwuemeka instead

The player mainly on the Toffees’ radar is Carney Chukwuemeka who is of interest to Everton.

Chukwuemeka had been priced at £40m which will no doubt be out of Moyes’ budget if Everton are to sign more than one player this January.

Whether a deal can come to fruition between Chelsea or not is another matter, but it seems as though they’ve dropped a complete interest in a target.

It became aware that the Friedkins wanted to sign Habib Diarra, but that may look unlikely after a recent report.

According to French Journalist, Loic Tanzi, after trying to bring in Diarra from Strasbourg for several weeks of the window, Everton have ‘concretely positioned’ themselves on the signing of Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka’s versatility could be key for Everton

Moyes will take pride in whoever he signs in the remaining days, but Chukwuemeka could be the ideal candidate.

The 21-year-old hasn’t had his chance with Chelsea but has shown glimpses with the Blues which should be enough for Everton to sign him.

Chukwuemeka is packed with versatility in midfield which could prove vital in a relegation battle, and perfectly fits Everton’s scenario.

He’s ideal for either an attacking role or a defensive position, which could suit Moyes’ desire to replace Mangala.

There’s a reason Chelsea signed the prospect from Aston Villa in 2022, and Everton can now provide a big step up in Chukwuemeka’s career.
