Former Everton midfielder Anders Limpar has named Celtic star Benjamin Nygren as an option for the Blues this summer.

Everton will be looking to add goals to their side again in the summer following inconsistent campaigns for both Beto and Thierno Barry.

With goals proving an issue for David Moyes, he has been urged to look to his home town of Glasgow and consider Celtic’s Swedish gem.

Nygren has been in impressive form this season and Limpar truly believes the 24-year-old would be capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

Everton urged to move for Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren

Former Everton academy graduate Beni Baningime suffered Hearts agony against Celtic at the weekend.

It was triumph for the Hoops and Nygren certainly played his role in scoring 16 goals across the Scottish Premiership campaign.

“Benjamin Nygren has been good for Sweden when he’s played for them. He scored 20-odd goals for Celtic, the champions in Scotland. I like him. He is a down-to-earth human being,” Limpar told Betano.

“He’s a versatile player, he comes in from the left with his right foot. He is tall. He knows the game. I do think Nygren can spread his wings and play for a Premier League club. He could do a great job at Everton. He’d be a smart signing.

Nygren scored 21 goals in total for Celtic this season, including four in their Europa League campaign.

“The thing is, if he leaves, he can’t play in the Champions League next year because he won’t be at the top five clubs in England. But if he wants to take that risk, I wish him all the luck. Why not give it a go.”

There will naturally be some concern from those on Merseyside over whether Nygren would be able to translate his form shown at Parkhead to the Premier League.

However, Nygren’s versatility is certainly something that would be admired by Moyes.

This season alone, Nygren has played across five different positions in the Celtic side, ranging from central midfield to striker.

James Garner’s versatility has been utilised by Moyes at Everton and Nygren is a player who could offer a more attacking alternative, in that sense.

Doing it in the Premier League after tearing it up in Scotland is certainly a big ask, though.
