Chris Sutton says whether Everton should sack Sean Dyche after Aston Villa defeat

All the attention surrounding Everton at the moment seems to be aimed at the manager, with many questioning his credentials after a torrid start to the new season.

Sean Dyche has led his side to four successive Premier League defeats, and they are currently propping up the table with zero points and 13 goals conceded.

Once their strongest asset, their defence has regressed immeasurably, left ravaged by the continued absence of Jarrad Branthwaite.

And yet, despite the pressure seemingly unrelenting, Chris Sutton has remained firm on his stance regarding the former Burnley boss.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton chatted with Ian Ladyman about last weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Naturally, once they had tackled the North London Derby amongst the other big clashes, they settled on Everton, who once again had surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2.

Aston Villa were this weekend’s beneficiaries, and naturally it has resulted in pressure mounting on Sean Dyche’s Everton position

However, both pundits were pretty steadfast in their stances, with Ladyman first noting: ’Sean Dyche… I have a very very simple view on the Sean Dyche situation. Yeah, Everton have lost every game so far this season. They are nil for four, as they would say in America.

‘However, I will say one very simple thing: The only way that Everton will go down is if they sack Sean Dyche and do something stupid and replace him with somebody unsuitable.

‘Sean Dyche stays Everton will stay up. It’s as simple as that. And they’ll start next season in their new stadium in the Premier League.’

Sutton would concur: ‘I totally agree. 100%. Nothing to add to that. And they may be pretty depressing. It’s been a poor start and a bad few years but they’ve such a great rich history. They just need to keep calm.’

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche this season?

Whilst there is always a chance that a sacking could be just around the corner at Everton, especially after a poor run of fixtures, it feels like the rash, reckless and quick-fire decision-making of Farhad Moshiri’s tenure is long gone now.

After all, it’s worth noting how Dyche also went six games before claiming his first Premier League win of last season whilst also enduring a 13-game winless run between December and April, yet still kept his job.

This hierarchy are clearly sold in the 53-year-old, with Everton sources confirming their confidence in Dyche.

So, it’s very unlikely that he will be sacked, particularly with his deal due to expire next summer.
