Dan Friedkin could be about to make his first big mistake at Everton as manager news emerges

Everton is a landscape impossible to predict, with even the latest takeover news coming as a surprise to many.

Even revered Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers admitted that the developments that emerged all throughout yesterday, which revealed that Dan Friedkin had agreed a deal to buy Everton, left him stunned.

However, this is not the only facet of the club that has left many shocked, with their transfers, managerial appointments and financial decisions also drawing scrutiny across the Farhad Moshiri era.

Fortunately, that will hopefully all be set to change for the better under Dan Friedkin‘s rule.

That is, unless one recent report is to be believed.

Everton linked with Gareth Southgate appointment

After all, despite all the good work Sean Dyche has done thus far, this torrid start to the new Premier League campaign aside, there are claims that his replacement is already being lined up.

And whilst a move for Graham Potter could be explained, seeking to usher in a new era with more exciting football, what would be inexplicable is if Everton were to appoint Gareth Southgate, as some are suggesting.

The former England manager, who left his post after failing to beat Spain in the European Championship finals this summer, has seen his stock rise and fall throughout a tumultuous but ultimately successful spell with the national team.

However, having come under intense scrutiny for some of his personnel and tactical decisions, Evertonians are unlikely to warm to him.

The report in question states: ‘Everton prospective owner Dan Friedkin has identified Gareth Southgate as a potential candidate to head into the Goodison Park dugout if he opts to sack Sean Dyche in the aftermath of taking control of the Merseyside outfit in the coming weeks, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.’

Dan Friedkin would be making his first big Everton mistake

Were they to replace Dyche with Southgate, it would mark the first really big mistake of Friedkin’s regime, before it has even really begun.

After all, whilst the 54-year-old did impress, he would hardly inspire enough confidence to ease the fanbase.

A notoriously defensive manager, already supporters are somewhat disgruntled with Dyche’s current tactical setup.

However, he at least has a track record of keeping teams up with this philosophy, proven within the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the possession-based football he has at times tried to perform with England often fell flat, with their lack of cutting-edge forging few chances for even the best players in the world.

If Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka could not find a way to supply Harry Kane with regularity, how would Friedkin expect him to do it with the players at Everton’s disposal?

Clearly a very affable individual, who fostered a fine team spirit within the England camp, trading Dyche for Southgate would be a really questionable move.
