Idrissa Gana Gueye has been one of Everton’s standout performers this season.

Even under Sean Dyche, Idrissa Gueye was one of Everton’s most consistent players and he’s continued that under David Moyes.

Gueye was the Man of the Match against Nottingham Forest last week and produced another battling performance in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

The former PSG midfielder turns 36 in September and there has been some speculation around a summer exit, with his deal set to expire.

However, it has been reported that Everton are planning to offer Gueye a contract extension ahead of the move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

Still, there remains uncertainty, but former player Arnaut Danjuma has made it clear what he wants to see happen.

Arnaut Danjuma wants to see Idrissa Gana Gueye become Everton captain

Everton were unlucky to lose against Manchester City yesterday as they kept them at bay up until the 84th minute.

Chris Sutton reckons James Tarkowski’s injury changed the game, as he came off for Michael Keane, who made a number of errors.

Gueye certainly didn’t deserve to be on the losing side and he took to Instagram after the game to share his frustration whilst maintaining a positive outlook.

“Not the result we wanted but let’s keep it positive. Memorable moment walking on the pitch with the boys. UTT”

Interestingly, former teammate Arnaut Danjuma, who now plies his trade in La Liga with Girona, commented: “(C)”.

It suggests that Danjuma would like to see Gueye given the captain’s armband, with Seamus Coleman likely to leave.

James Tarkowski has been the interim skipper for much of the season.

What David Moyes said when asked about renewing Gueye’s contract

Moyes was recently asked about whether Gueye will be an Everton player next season, and he kept his cards close to his chest.

“What I do know about him is, I’ve only been here a couple of months to work with him and I think he’s been terrific in the games,” the Everton boss said.

“He plays younger than what he is at times, in many ways. He’s someone who’s played well for us, he really has. I understand how well he’s done.

“We just need to keep going. We won’t be making any decisions on contracts until we’re mathematically safe so, we’ll have a look at all that when we get to that point.”
