Everton could have an overhaul in their midfield department at the end of the season, with plenty of players’ futures to consider.

It’s known that there will be significant signings from The Friedkin Group at Everton this season.

But outgoings will have to be considered, and the two main midfield options could be leaving the club in Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Doucoure could move to Saudi Arabia, whereas Gueye is a priority for contract talks, with David Moyes having plenty of decisions to make.

However, the Scotsman is already looking to improve the whole of the midfield and he’s got a free run to go for a major target.

Everton target Sean Longstaff to leave Newcastle United

To describe a Moyes-type player is difficult in some categories, but hard-working is the top of that list, and that’s why Sean Longstaff is perfect for his project.

A midfielder who has been left in the dark by Eddie Howe after being a raging success, as Longstaff has been dubbed ‘underrated’, and he’s firmly on Everton’s radar.

Although Everton face competition from Leeds United, Longstaff might see a more sustainable option in Everton who have an exciting future.

Now The Athletic claims that it is destined that the 27-year-old leaves his beloved Toon Army this summer to seek a new challenge.

Having not started a league match since December 12, he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Should Newcastle receive a ‘decent’ offer for Longstaff, he is ‘likely’ to go.

Howe’s side have exercised an extension in Longstaff’s present deal primarily to protect his value, should he choose to, as it’s claimed Longstaff has a £12m price-tag.

How Longstaff feels about joining Everton this transfer window

To have an experienced Premier League player become available for £12m will surely grab the attention of many clubs.

But given what Everton are building, a move to Merseyside seems to be the best option on the table for Longstaff.

Leeds are another club that fancy their chances of signing him, but with the ongoing trend of newly-promoted clubs getting relegated, this already gives Everton the advantage.

Adding to this, Longstaff is open to joining Everton, making it clear that The Friedkins’ project appeals to the midfielder.

Moyes should snap at this chance and potentially make it the first signing of what is a busy summer.
