Everton are now resigned to a mid-table finish as European football has slipped away from them.

Everton were held to a score draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, which means they now sit four points adrift of the top seven with two games to go.

The Toffees really should’ve come away with the three points, as they were up against a Palace side who had just played less than 72 hours earlier.

Speaking to the media after the game, David Moyes made some comments that will certainly frustrate some Everton supporters.

David Moyes very negative after Everton vs Crystal Palace

All season, Moyes has tried to downplay the quality of this Everton side and lower the expectations.

Perhaps he’s been trying to take the pressure off his players, which is fair enough, but after blowing a great opportunity to beat Palace, it didn’t feel like the right approach to take this time around.

The Scotsman once again alluded to avoiding relegation as a marker for success, which just seems crazy considering the Friedkin Group backed him with a £100m-plus spend last summer.

“I’ve got to the stage now where I’m saying: ‘Isn’t it great that, imagine talking about ever being in Europe after the years we’ve had recently’.

“This time last year, I think most of the questions were that we were going to lose 12 players and were about to leave Goodison and moving to a new stadium – how do you think this is going to be?

“In truth, we’ve not had the word relegation too close to us most of the year. I don’t necessarily see that as success, but I see it from where Everton have come from. I see that it’s been certainly a step up.”

No win in any of Everton’s last five games… what would you say to David Moyes? 🫣

Those types of comments must be wearing thin on a section of the fanbase, especially considering the Toffees have gone winless in five at a crucial stage of the season.

There have been so many missed opportunities to get into the top seven, but many believe Moyes’ team selections have held this group back.

The Friedkin Group must now make a crucial decision on his future, with his contract due to expire next year.
