Everton will need to find some big improvements this week back at Finch Farm ahead of their Brighton & Hove Albion clash on Sunday.

The game on Monday night ended with divided opinions over the penalty which cost David Moyes and his side a point.

Jamie Carragher felt James Tarkowski did handball it in the area, and Chris Kavanagh came to the right decision.

Speaking to Everton News, Mark Clattenburg agreed with Leeds’ penalty award, but there were other issues for Moyes heading into the game.

Everton’s defence were handed some major injury blows in the week leading up to the opening game of the season.

That could be about to change, though. Moyes has now been handed a big injury boost ahead of the game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Nathan Patterson returns to Everton training

Everton lost Nathan Patterson to injury during their time in the United States, with Moyes sharing his concerns.

“Nathan has got hernia symptoms. Whether it means he’s got a hernia or not, we’re not sure, but we’ll have him assessed on Tuesday after we get back,” Moyes said during a press conference.

Fortunately, it seems Patterson has escaped any real issues, with a fresh update emerging out of Finch Farm.

According to The Bobble, Everton have now welcomed back Patterson to light training ahead of the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

It would seem a return for the game on the weekend is still unlikely given he is only participating in light training.

But this will come as a real boost for the Blues, who have also seen Jarrad Branthwaite sidelined through injury.

Moyes has hinted at signing another right-back during Friday’s pre-Leeds press conference.

But this could well take away some of the pressure in adding in the transfer market, with Everton expected to prioritise a new right winger.

Everton’s mole strikes again at Finch Farm

Last week, Moyes shared his anger at Everton’s leaked news. Just days on, the same thing has happened ahead of the Brighton game.

It would appear as if Patterson’s return may come too soon for the game against the Seagulls, but nothing can be ruled out yet.

Regardless, the opposition will now be aware of who Moyes could have to select from in the game at the new stadium.

This is something that Moyes is keen to end at Finch Farm, but clearly they have not yet found the mole in their camp.
