Everton take on Aston Villa in the Premier League today, and David Moyes made an interesting remark ahead of the game.
Toffees fans are hoping to see a response today after a poor start to 2026, but a huge effort will be required at Villa Park.
Unai Emery’s side are flying at the moment, and they’ll be gunning for three points after Arsenal slipped up against Nottingham Forest and Sean Dyche yesterday evening.
Are Everton going to get back to winning ways against Aston Villa? 🫣
Let us know your score predictions below! 😫
Villa have definitely made real strides in the Premier League in recent times, after coming close to being relegated in 2020.
They’ve emerged from that period and are now fiercely competitive. It remains to be seen if they can mount a genuine title charge.
But they’re in the Europa League – which is something Everton should be striving for.
Ahead of today’s game, Moyes was asked about Villa – and hopefully The Friedkin Group heard his response.
David Moyes talks up investment at Aston Villa
At the moment, many fans are a little frustrated.
Everton have just had three poor results, but the club are still in a decent position in the Premier League.
The narrative has been that Everton will be cautious this month. Indeed, it was suggested that loans are more likely for Everton, and splashing a lot of cash doesn’t seem to be on the agenda. But some are keen to see a show of ambition, since there is still a lot to play for.
It increasingly feels that to stand still as a Premier League club is to actually go backwards.

Villa have certainly not stood still and are now enjoying a very promising moment, and Moyes pointed to their investment as a key reason.
He said in his press conference: “Look, Aston Villa have done remarkable in recent seasons. I think they’ve shown great investment. They’ve got Aston Villa back where they want to be, in and around the Champions League, over the last few years, and European football. So I think Villa are now beginning to challenge all the top teams.
“Now obviously their league position has shown how good they are, and how far up the league they are. They’ve got an excellent manager. There’s a lot of good things Villa are doing.”

The Friedkin Group need to copy Aston Villa blueprint
Everton were at the wrong end of the Premier League table for too long, but the arrival of the Friedkins last year and the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium will hopefully bring about happier times for the club.
Moyes’ words about Villa were interesting, and hopefully TFG were listening. Because the Villa blueprint is absolutely what they should be looking to follow.
How would you rate The Friedkin Group’s first year at Everton? 👏
They had similar struggles to Everton a few years ago. But significant investment by V Sports has catapulted the club to a position many clubs of a similar stature now envy.
It just goes to show what significant investment can do for a club.
Of course, Villa have also used their money wisely which has helped, and hopefully TFG and the leadership team at Everton can make similarly smart calls in the coming years.
