Everton have now been handed a significant setback in their summer interest of Guela Doue.

The search for a new right-back is firmly on at Everton following another turbulent Premier League campaign in the position.

David Moyes is desperate to add a new right-back following 18 months of playing Jake O’Brien out of position at full-back.

However, a potential move for the Ivory Coast international, Doue, may now be out of Everton’s price bracket after a recent update.

Everton likely priced out of a move for Guela Doue

Everton have long-standing interest in Doue after the right-back was placed on the radar back in January.

Doue is currently playing at the World Cup with the Ivory Coast, where he has put himself in the shop window with an impressive opening performance.

The frustrating news for Everton is that The Times understand Doue is going to cost in the region of £40m this summer.

What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋

Surely the writing is on the wall now?

Everton’s finances this summer are not under the same limitations to which they have been over recent years, but the Toffees must be sensible.

It has already been suggested that Ben White has been placed out of Everton’s budget, which would suggest Doue also falls into that category.

Although a lot of Everton fans may well accept the club not spending huge money on a right-back, it only highlights the missed opportunity from back in January.

Doue was there for Everton to sign during the winter market, but the Blues, and Moyes, passed up the opportunity.

Not only would landing Doue during the season have provided Everton with an instant upgrade, it would have also secured them a quality player at a lower fee.

Since the turn of the year, Doue provided Strasbourg with three assists and one goal in Ligue 1 and is now raising his value at the World Cup.

This is a prime example of where Everton’s dithering transfer tactics have cost them considerably in the market.
