Everton may have shocked a number of people with their impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign.

David Moyes has endured a hectic summer on Merseyside, with plenty of players coming and going from Finch Farm.

It was always going to be a busy market for Everton, given the number of players who were coming to the end of their contracts.

Everton signed Merlin Rohl on transfer deadline day to cap off nine new arrivals over the course of the window.

The Toffees have made it two wins on the bounce in the Premier League to enter the international break up in fifth position.

It is still very early days, but the signs are positive at Everton that a much-improved season could be had under Moyes.

David Moyes mocking Owen Hargreaves’s Everton prediction

Moyes has already proven many critics wrong since he made the return to Everton back in January.

There were many pundits who suggested Moyes was not the right man for the job, with Paul Merson even suggesting that Lee Carsley should have succeeded Sean Dyche.

Ahead of the new campaign starting, it would have been thought that the pundits around the league would have learned their lesson.

However, Owen Hargreaves dropped a shock Everton prediction, expecting the Blues to finish two places worse off (15^th) under the 62-year-old.

It’s quite an incredible prediction considering Everton have Moyes in from the start, and the squad has been drastically improved.

Pundits are raving about Jack Grealish in an Everton shirt, with the 29-year-old providing an instant boost of quality to the side.

Yet, Hargreaves thought Everton would perform even worse than they did last season.

Everton have target set on European football

Last season, the likes of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest stunned everyone by securing European football for this season.

This time around, Moyes is targeting a European finish at Everton.

The signings made this summer have shown some real ambition from the owners, with Everton beating Tottenham Hotspur to Tyler Dibling.

These are exactly the kind of moves Everton need to make if they are to take the leap forward and secure themselves a spot back in the top half.

Hargreaves’ prediction may have come during the summer, but not to see the improvements being made has left Moyes no other option but to make a total mockery of the prediction.
