Everton’s transfer deadline has already been a rollercoaster, with their ninth signing of the summer set to be completed.

Monday morning kicked off in style with David Moyes making a number of demands ahead of the deadline at 7pm.

Everton News understands that Everton were looking to land two defensive additions before the end of play today.

This all comes amid the ongoing move for Merlin Rohl from SC Freiburg.

Everton are set to sign Rohl for around £17m, having shown a long-standing interest in the midfielder throughout the calendar year.

It has not all been about arrivals at Finch Farm, with Everton looking set to loan out Harrison Armstrong to Preston North End.

A matter of hours remain in the window, which has those inside the Everton training centre looking to close any final deals in the works.

Everton closing in on signing Merlin Rohl

During the summer, the message was very clear, with Moyes demanding nine or 10 new signings before the window shut.

Everton look set to get there with Rohl expected to become the ninth signing for Kinnear in the coming hours.

According to Dominic King, Everton are not expected to make any further signings after Rohl.

This will not be the news that fans sat at home will want to hear this afternoon, but a tenth signing may now be out of reach.

It has not been through a lack of trying, with Everton unable to find a suitable defender to fulfil Moyes’ demand for another addition.

With a defensive signing looking to be off the cards, Nathan Patterson is expected to remain at Everton despite the interest from Sevilla.

Alan Myers expected two signings to be made, but it looks as if fans may have to settle for just one on transfer deadline day.

Late transfer twist at Everton should not be dismissed

There may now only be a few hours remaining until the window shuts, but those at Finch Farm will be working hard into the final minutes.

Everton had shown an interest in Nathan Ake. However, he is another player who will not be making the move to Merseyside this afternoon.

If Everton are unable to work any late deals, then it will still mark a strong transfer window from the Blues.

Moyes admitted not every position could be covered this summer, given the huge task at hand following numerous free agent departures.

However, there will likely be some caution over Everton’s depth in defence, which will surely be made a priority in January.

The transfer window has shown in the past that anything is possible, and a sudden late twist cannot be discounted.
