David Moyes made his first signing during his second tenure as Everton boss on transfer deadline day, with Argentinian midfielder Carlos Alcaraz joining from Flamengo.
Alcaraz got over the line late for Everton. The Toffees submitted a deal sheet to sanction the 22-year-old’s loan move, and the club made the move official in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Alcaraz initially joins on loan, with an option to buy for Moyes, should the midfielder enjoy success at Goodison Park during the remainder of the campaign.

Well, if Alcaraz performs anything like Moyes’ last signing for Everton – Toffees supporters should be in for a treat.
John Stones was David Moyes’ last signing for Everton
That’s right, John Stones was the last player Moyes signed during his first stint in charge at Goodison Park.
On deadline day in 2013, Everton signed then-Barnsley’s England Under-19 defender Stones on a five-and-a-half-year deal for a fee, according to the BBC, of around £3m.
A deal was agreed between Barnsley and Everton before Stones, then 18, agreed personal terms and passed a medical.
“I am very excited to be joining. Now the hard work begins,” said Stones.

He wasn’t kidding. Stones worked his socks off at Everton and quickly became a Toffees first-team regular under Moyes’ successors.
Now, 12 years on, we know the dizzying heights the English centre-half has achieved in football.
How John Stones’ career has panned out
Stones was special for Everton, and soon enough, England’s elite were sniffing around his signature. It was Manchester that was his eventual destination, with Pep Guardiola luring Stones to Manchester City via a £47.5 million transfer in 2016.
Under Pep Guardiola, Stones only got better and better. He’s won multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, and League Cups. He also played a crucial role in City’s 2022-23 treble-winning season.
| Club | Period | Appearances | Goals |
| Manchester City | Aug 2016 – Present | 273 | 19 |
| Everton | Jan 2013 – Aug 2016 | 95 | 1 |
| Barnsley | Apr 2011 – Jan 2013 | 28 | 1 |
Internationally, Stones has been a mainstay for England since his debut in 2014, featuring in major tournaments, including the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and Euro 2020, where England finished runners-up.
Not bad – for a boy from Barnsley.
